ENGLISH COMMERCIAL.

(VIIOM THE HOME KEWrf.) The exports from the United .Kingdom to the various countries of fcho world during the first half of the. present J'ear, compared with the extraordinary total of the corresponding half of last year, exhibit a reduction of only 5i per cent. Wlulo there has been considerable falling off in our colonial and Amorican trade, owing chiefly in former case to the depression in Australia, and in tho latter to I lie prohibitory tariff and tho scanty harvest of 1866, our transactions with the Continent, and especially with Germany, have experienced a considerable extension. Prance and Holland continue to show advancing totals, and Italy also figures satisfactorily. Egypt has made a further stride, but Turkey exhibits a reaction from the heavy total of last year, frazil likewise, notwithstanding her purchases of war material, - presents a large decline j but with the other 'States of South America there has been in several cases great progress. Chili especially has taken nearly threo times as mucli as in the corresponding period of 186G, when her operations were checked by the Spanish blockade, and the Argentine Republic now stands nest to Belgium and before Russia, Spain, and Portugal. To Mexico our exports have been little mora than half of those in 18G6. Among the items of the list " French possessions in India" appear (or the first time, and " Siam," which has hitherto been included, has dropped out. The bills of Messrs James Hewitt and Co., of Liverpool, have been returned. The house is oii3 of the largest importers of American cotton, and is understood to have met with serious losses from the continuous decline in the value jf that staple. The liabilities were at one time very heavy, but have been gradually liquidated, and it is said do not now exceed L 250.000. The directors of the Bank of Australasia notify that "a dividend at tho rate of 6} per cent, per annum, both free of income-tax, being together L 2 10s per share for the halfyear, will bo paid to the proprietors on October 15." The famous Credit Mobiliei of Paris is now in liquidation, having been brought to tho necessity of asking assistance from tho Bank of France in consequence of its satellite companies being unable to fulfil their ougagcments. Tho negotiations for tho purpose commenced a fortnight age, and after a week of consideration a result was arrived at. The sum wanted by the Credit Mobilier was L 3,000,000. Towards this the Bank of France, although their statutes allow them only to make advances onEentes or railway obligations consent to supply L 1,500,000 on the security of the Credit Mobilier Company backed by that of the Societc Inimobiliere, and also tho personal guarantee of the directors to the extent iv some cases, such as that of SI. Pcrcire, the Duo de G-alliere, &c, of L 400,000 each. M. Periere moreover gives, it id said, a registered mortgage on his real estate. Tlii3 loan is to be for a period not exceeding three years. The remaining L 1,500,000 required is reported to have been obtained from the Comptoir d'Escompte and others, upon tho Credit Mobilier hypothecating with them all their stocks and shares. Fiually, it is intimated that when tho Bank of France resolved to infringe its statutes by consenting on the earnest representations of tho French Government to make the proposed advance, it was upon a distinct condition that tho Credit Mobilier Company shall proceed at once to iquidation.
