ADVANCE SEWELL STREET.

TO THE EDITOR. 01? TIIE WUST COAST TIMES. Sie — A minor reached my ears on Saturday afternoon that we might possibly get tho Tramway down Sewell street if the Council granted the prayer of the petition discussed by it in part on Friday evening. Sol determined to go to the adjourned discussion at the Council Chambers on Saturday evening, and hear all the arguments out. I have snid arguments, Mr Editor, aud this may be right, but I am inclined to think that in one instance the word " motives " might more fittingly apply. The calm business proposition of the Tramway Company deserves the iniinediate and active attention of all of us who live in Sewell street — let us grasp the chance thus offered, and let the tramway people lay their line either in the centre or at the side of the street, whichever suits themselves. I am willing to contribute my mite towards offering a handsome premium to tho Company if they will only come awaj r from Itevell street and patronise Sewell street, and I know from undoubted authority that the sum of four hundred pounds has already been offered by one of our section holders only. I would suggest that our worthy Coroner, or MrLockhart.or some other influential resident, call a meeting at once of all the inhabitants and section holders of fcewell street to take steps to further our interest in this matter. I am, Sir, Obsebveb. Sewell street, Nov. 17, 1867.

Tho other three in the boat were re3eued by a boat's crew from H.M.S. Charybdis. The other accident occurred to a pleasure boat in the Bay of Islands. Two young men were drowned ; a third named Lees was taken off a rock on the following morning. By a third aud similar accident, a boat-builder named Thomas Condon was drowned.
