THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE WEST COAST TIMES. Sie — Will you allow me, in reply to a letter from " Loyalty," appearing in your paper of this date, to state that a requisition to his Worship the Mayor, requesting him to convene a public meeting of the residents in Hokitika, in order to take such steps as may be necessary to obtain a visitof hisßoyalHighness Prince Alfred to Westland, has been signed, end as the Prince of Wales Opera House has been kindly granted for the purpose, I believe it will be arranged to have the meeting on Monday afternoon next. I may also C itate that I have not the slightest doubt of a sufficient sum being subscribed by the public to defray all expenses necessary to give our Duke a right ]o3'al and most cordial welcome, without asking the Municipal Council for any assistance. Having canvassed the town within the last few days, I am much pleased to say that, without exception, there exists every desire to contribute handsomely to such fund as may be required for the purpose, with a most sincere wish on the part of every one here that the Prince will accept ourinvitation. I aminducedto address you on the matter, as I assure you the public are most anxious to see something definite arranged to induce his visit to Westland, and in no other portion of her Majesty's dominions will he receive a more hearty and cordial welcome than here. I am, Sir, Tour obedient servant, P. Zohijab. !N T oy. 14, 1867.
