Henry Loader was charged with tho wilful destruction of property of the value of 25s.— Darnel M'Gain deposed that the prisoner came into his hotel (the Balmoral Hotel) iv a sfato of drunkenness. He attempted to turn him. out. Prisoner afterwards broke a lamp, and threatened to smash everything in tho house. — His Worship fined" him Ll, and ordered him to pay 25s for the property destroyed, or to be imprisoned for four days in default; of payment. — ■The prisoner was then charged with assaulting Detective Browne, who arrested him on the last charge. It appeared that the prisoner, whilst being removed to the watch-house, kicked the detective, and struck him on the side of tho head. — His Worship fined him L 2, 'with the option of four days' imprisonment. Labcexy. — John Anderson was charged with stealing 15s on the 9th inst., from the premises of Mrs Clark.Stafford street. Mr Button for the prosecution ; Mr Eees for tho prisoner. — Mr Button stated that the prosecutrix, Mrs Clark, was unable to attend through illness, and handed in a medical certificate to that effect. — Florence Do Yore, being sworn, deposed that the prisoner came to Mrs Clark's house between four and five o'clock on the day in. question. Previous to that witness had placed lialf-a-sovereign and five shillings given her by Mrs Clatk in a chesfc-of-drawers in her bedroom. Prisoner made some enquiries of witness ai to the amount" of the rent of the adjoining house. She left him (standing on the verandah close to her bedroom door) to enquire of Mrs Clark, and on her return she saw him take tho money off the chest of drawers. Witness called Mrs Clark, and prisoner then ran away. — Cross-ex-amined by Mr Eecs — She got the money from Mrs Clark. It was not given hei* by „ prisoner. — Detective Browne deposed to having arrested the prisoner from the de« srription given of himibjr the last witness, wlio subsequently identified prisoner as . being the person who had stolen the money. Witness searched prisoner, and found half a sovereign and three shillings in silver on him. He said the money belonged to him. — Mr Eee3 submitted that there was no reason to doubt that the money did belong to the prisoner. It was not to be supposed that he went there for tho purpose of stealing. — His Worship discharged the prisoner, and ordered his money to be given up to him.
