COUNCILLOE BOYLE.

TO TEE EDITOE OF THE WEST COAST TIMES.

Sib — I am sorry to see Mr Boyle resent in such a splenetic manner the charge made by your reporter of having initiated a desultory and irrelevant discussion. His position relatively to the public and his fellow councillors ought to have had some influence in restraining his wrath. If Councillor Boylo is determined to make himself conspicuous in public matters he must expect to see their remarks not very flattering to his self esteem. A little more consideration would surely have prevented him from assuming the character of a champion of public rights. Mr Boyle's sympathies with the ratepayers who refuse to pay arc surely not so strong as to induce him to raise his voice against any hasty steps being taken with regard to law proceedings against any person, without first asking them. This would indeed be treating tho public with respect, and though devoid of hostility, it would not tend to raise the Council in the esteem of those to whom this overflowing kindness was shown. I can only hope that Councillor Boyle will see the propriety of avoiding print as far as possible in connection with the duties devolving upon him as a representative of the public. He will always find a sufficient number of persons ready to scrutinise the acts and publish any dclinqucnces of the Council without any attempt on his part to involve it in trouble. I am, &c, Prudentia.
