MR. TAYLER'S MEETING.
At conclusion of Mr Prosser s meeting, Mr Tayler, another of the candidates, held a meeting. Mr Rees took the chair, and introduced the eandidato. Mr Tayleb said that he would be very brief in the observationsihe had to make. He was in favor of retrenchment, as he saw by the balance sheet that it would cost L 1262 a year for salaries, and' that sum he considered too large for the ratepayers to pay. It had been stated that the balance sheet was not correct, but he did not believe that, for ho did not think that tho Mayor would have put his name to the balance sheet had it not been correct. As to the assessment, he thought that it was much too high, and ought to be reduced. He was in favor of a revenue being derived from the wharf, and also that the town lauds should bo handed over to tho Corporation, and he would also be in favor of hypothecating the rates, in order to raise a loan for carrying on public works. (Cheers.) Ho thought that the old Council should have settled up Tanner's defalcations before the new Council came into office. Aftor the candidate had replied to several questions, a vote of confidence was passed in him on the motion of Mr Smifchers. Mr Mcc was then voted to the chair, when tho meeting was addressed by Messrs Higgin, Button, and M'Be'th, and votca of confidence in eaoh of the candidates having been passed, the proceedings terminated.
