Busiuess affairs have assumed a more cheering aspect during the past week, and large sales of spring stocks in various line 3 have taken place. Cash transactions of fair magnitude are now of frequent occurrence — a system, if persistently acted upon for a lengthened period, which will do much towards placing trade on a satisfactory basis.

The returns to hand per Suez mail offir3t shipments of wheat from this province are very satisfactory, the prices realised being 83 Gild per bushel of G2 lbs ; and as it was anticipated that prices would not recede, we may look for the whole of the sound shipments being placed at payable rates. Few sales of n heat are beingraadeatour markets, but several medium parcels have changed hands privately at 3s Gd to -4s per bushel. Holders of large stocks look for higher rates ruling before next harvest; and are holding back. Fued oats are without inquiry ; barley the same. Peas have been in more domand during the week for seed, prices ranging from 4s 6d to 6s, according to variety. No demand fov beans. Potatoes have advanced, and we now quote Li to L 4 10s per ton. Dairy produce is dull of sale ; cheese cannot bo placed higher than from 7id to 8.1 per lb, and better at lOd.

A sale privately of two splendid mob 3of fat cattle, from the Peninsula, took place during the week at Ll7 and Ll7 los per head. They are for the West Coast market.
