VICTORIA.

The Melbourne "Argus," of the 28th ult., reports as follows : —

In the import markets to-day, business generally has not been active. Breadstuffs continue to maintain a very languid appearance, and no transactions of any consequence can be effected. Quotations of country brands of Victorian flour are retained at Lll 5s to Lll 10s. In wheat no sales have been reported. Teas at the moment are not characterised by much animation, though half-chests still meet with favor ; a few small parcels have been quitted of medium congous at Is 7d while fine descriptions have been disposed of to the trade at up to 2s Id. Candles are inquired for, and sales are mentioned at lid. The quantity placed by auction was very trifling, and, rather singularly though, faulty lots found buyers at 10§d net ; no higher bid could be got for sound parcels, which had in consequence to be withdrawn. Kerosene oil generally is in a most depressed condition, with the exception of Downers, which is inquired for; and we learn o? some 250Q cases, in parcels, having changed hands at up to 2s 3d. Oriental has been quitted at 2s Id. The auction sale of oilman's stores passed off most satisfactorily ; some 2000 packages were got rid off at improved prices. Of the muscatel raisins about 2500 packages found buyers at prices ranging from 8f dto B£d. The V.H. and Co. geneva offered at the same time had to be withdrawn, On the other hand, we understand that some 3000 cases of yellow seal, long duty, have been quitted in a line privately, on terms withheld, and holders now demand for trade parcels as much as 14s 6d for tliis brand. In stout we hear of sales of Burkes having been made at 10s l^d. We understand that the bills of Messrs. Thomas and Rush, millers, have been returned dishonored. The liabilities secured and unsecured, are stated to be slightly over LBOOO. '
