GREY RIVER.

High Watrr Tim Day.— 7.l2 a.m. ; 7.37 p.m.

The Ships in the White Sea. — Telegrams to hand yesterday from Sfc Petersburg, dated 6,30 p.m., of the 271h of June, that further accounts had been received from Archangel, in respect to the destruction of shipping in the White Sea by the breakiugup of the ice, from which it is inferred that the loss has been much greater than was previously reported. One telegram from Archangel, dated 26th June, states that over 100 ships were lost, and that the crews were in a desperate position on the coast of Lapland, while some were on the drifting floes of ice. Lord Stanley, Secretary of State for Foreign affairs, has received a telegraphic despatch from Sir A. Buchanan, her Majesty's Minister at St Petersburg, confirming the sad news, and stating that he has requested the Russian Government to render assistance to the crews drifting on the ice, but it appears there is only one small steamer available at Archangel. Yesterday telegrams were despatched from the Foreignoffice to her Majesty's Consuls at Copenhagen, Stoekhold, and to St. Petersburg, with instructions that they were to immediately put themselves in communication with the Government authorities of Sweden and other places northward, in order that all immediate assistance should be sent to the shipwrecked crews. The message to Sir A. Buchanan bore that, her Majesty's Government feels sure that the Russian Government will do all in their power to relieve the crews of the distressed vessels, and directed him to telegraph to the Consul at Archangel to render all possible assistance. Yesterday the Lords of the Admirality decided on despatching two steamships at once to the White Sea,to aid in tho search for the wrecked crews — London " Times," June 29th.
