THE SEPARATION PETITION.
TO THB KDITOB OF THE WEST COAST TIMBB.
Sie — I was standing this morning amongst a group of persons who were inspecting the League petition, as exhibited in Mr Stewart's window, and heard one gentleman make himself merry at the expense of the committee. The petifc tion purports to be signed by "Regi* tered Electors, Electors," and others. As two or three other people joined with Mm in the laugh, and seemed to think he had made a hit, may I ask you to set the matter right by explaining the difference between "Registered Electors" and " Electors" simply. Yours, &c, Novice. [Ignorance often laughs at what it presumes to be mistakes. " Registered Electors" are those whose names appear on the Electoral-roll of tlie colony, and who are qualified in respect of household property or tenure. The "Electors'' in Westland whose names are not registered on the Electoral- roll, are the holders of the '• Miners franchise," in other words, of Business Licenses, or, Miners' Rights of a certain stauding. — Ed. W.C.T.]
