The Lord Chancellor's bill for repealing statutes which have become obsolete, spent, or supersede^, weighs nearly two pounds, and fills 242 folio pages. This instalment of the expurgation of the statute-book extends from the Ist of William and Mary to the 10th of George HE. The " Newcastle Express" states that a few days ago the village of Preston, near North Shields, was thrown into great excitement by a woman running about in a very excited state in sea-ch of her lost child. The neighbors joined her in the search, and after ransacking every nook and corner of the village, and scouring the fields far and near, gave up the child as having been stolen. All of a sudden it occurred to several of the searchers that perhaps the child might have fallen into a pond a short distance from tho parent's house. Speedily the pool of water was surrounded by men, women, and children, and tho water dragged without effect. The distracted mother then returned to her house to mourn her loss. Happening, however, to go up stairs, to her astouishment not less than her delight she found the little one sound asleep on the bed.
