The amount of import duty collected at the Custom House to-day was L 221 4s sd. The following list of merchandise cleared shows its distribution :—: —

There has been no business doing in tho import market during the week, tho port having been absolutely closed, the ominious " Nil " in the shipping column of arrivals aud departures, has been the daily note for the week. The entrance been unworkable, ship ping in the roadstead is again suffering serious detention. There have been seme transactions in staples, iv stock, but* without effecting prices. Flour is running low in stock, show" ing an upward tendency, the last quotations from Victoria (Ll3 ss) with the additional freight charged by sailing vessels, will no doubt lead to a higher figure being obtained

than at present ruling Provisions and produce generally have met with fair demand ; for local trade in wines, spirits, and beers, there has been nothing dono to call for comment, our last quofcaions aro maintained. Commercial advices by the English Mail, via Suez, show a falling off in shipments to the colonies, which will, it is anticipated harden prices for some leading arfcieks. It is satisfactory to note that local business is being well upheld, as shown by the clearances from bond, for home consumption during the week, amounting to L 2017 3s lid.
