The amount of import duty collected at the Custom House to-day was L 224 7s Id. The following list of merchandise cleared shows its distribution :—: —

DoTr on Exports.

Gold 245 7 8 Representing 1963 ounce 9of gold cleared at the Custom House.

We have had very little activity in the import market during the week, circumstances have been unpropitions for transhipping cargoes from roadstead to warehouse, the dullness in business generally, alluded to in our last report, still continues, the uncertainity connected with shipping matters at this time of the year, and this season particularly, which is proving a very trying one» cannot fail to cause a very unsettled state of markets ; there have been no heavy transactions during the week, and prices scarcely effected. Mr G. W. Binney placed the cargo of the Lloyd's Herald, consisting of Otago produce at, for potatoes (30 tons), L 9 ; oats, 4s ; chaff, Ll4 ; and an inferior lot of potatoes at L 4 10s ; first-class chaff is worth LlB. There is no improvement in flour, best Ade-. laide realising Ll7 10s. Provisions are without alteration. Wines and spirits have not been operated in to any extent, we cannot> therefore, alter ouv last quotations, prime butter and cheese are scarce, and would come to a good market' Should circumstances admit of the outlying vessels coming to the wharf early, the market will be fairly supplied with most essentials. The amount of duty collected on imports during the week amounted to L 1977 Os 4d.
