EIPOBTS.

Per Claud Hamilton, for Nelson &c. — 4000 ounces gold, Bank of New Zealand ; 1 box notes, Union Bank of Australia.

The P.N.Z. & A.E.M. Company's s.b. Airedale, W. H. Meikleham, commander, left Manukau on the 18th inst, and arrived at Taranaki early next morning, leaving again the same day for Nelson, which port she reached on the 20th. There she transhipped "West Coast passengers into the Lord Ashley, and thoee bound south into the Rangitoto, and »fter a stay of Bii days at Nelson left on the 26th for Greymouth, and arrived there at 11 30 a m, on the 27th, and after transhipping passengers and cargo into the Persevere, steamed for Hokitika at 12.30 p.m., and came to off the bar at 2.10 p.m. During the passage from Manukau fine weather -was experienced. The Airedale brings a portion of the English mail via Panama for Hokitika, which, ho-w-erer 'insisted of a few packets of periodicals only, as according to the provincial mail arrangements the '..(^ere and papers were sent on to Christchn^n »"■•»• f^memisßion toWtstern Canterbury -■>•< -IhqJ -t been otherwise ire migh' novr iia*u Ic-js. ir iL: -oeeipt of ova English advices by the Panama route, and thus hare anticipated the newß ris Suez by nearly a •week. The Airedale sails again for Bluff Harbor and Dunodin, this day.

The Olaud Hamilton sailed yesterday for Nelson and Wellington, with several passengers and 4000 ozb. of gold, a shipment by tbe Bank of New Zealand direct to England, via JP«jama. The G^'vd called at Greymouth, kthere 6000 or^^ ; fced shipment by the banlu^l^^^^Ybes away from West-

The brigantine Sarah and Mary, captain Duncan, sailed from Hobson's Bay on the 16th inst., with light northerly winds and fine weti<her. At 4 p.m. she was abreast cf Cape Sehanek, whon the wind chopped into and rapidly increased to a strong gale. For three Hays kept steadily there, and pro vented the brigantine from clearing the Straits until the 20th, on which day she left the land . with a moderate south breeze. She nv.de j a capital run across, notwithstanding that the yards were nearly sharp up the whole distance, as the prevailing winds wore from south to S.E., and a chopping head sea was encountered until well in with the New Zea- ] land coast. Mount Cook was sighted on the j 26th, and the roadstead reached next morning, and at tide time the Sarah and Mary was towed insido by the Challenge. She bring* a full general cxrgo, and 230 sheep, which were lan led in really good condition. The reading of the barometer may be quoted at from 2925 to 30-10. This smart vessel has done exceedingly well this voyage, »he having been only thirty days absent from Hokitika. On the passenger list we noticed the names of Mr and Mrs Taylor and child, Mrs Bradden and 2 children, Missea Nelson and Richard j and 1 in the steerage. Since the closing of the north and south channels last week the bar has kept in excellent condition, the depth of water having continued almost unvarying at from 10 to 11 feet, with a good straight run out. Yesterday the three harbor steamers worked the channel — the Yarra being the first to run out, with mails and passengers for the Claud Hamilton, and returned late on tide with passengers and ; mails from the Airedale. The Challenge towed out the schooner J. B Russell, bound to Picton, and fetched in the brigantine Sarah and Mary, from Melbourne. The Lionesß left the river on Wednesday night, and remained at anchor in the roadstead until yesterday morning, hoping to secure some inward-bounder. She, however, failed in doing bo, and returned inside empty handed.
