BRISBANE.
December 18.
On Saturday, Mr M'Lean was riding his favorite horse Peisly 4 rom Toowoomba to Westbrook, in company with Miss Beit, who was slightly in advance, and did not see him fall. On discovering it she got off her horse to assist him, and found him unable to speak. She sent for Dr Armstrong and other assistance, and to the head station- The cause of accident is unknown, aud probably will never be known. It is surmised "that Mr M'Lean must have been either in a fit, or that the horse gave a leap, and that he, having a loose rein, must have lost his seat and fallen off. The ground on which he fell had neither stump nor stone, but very soft.
Heavy thunderstorm this afternoon, with large hail for ten minutes ; stones six inches circumference ; much damage to windows, fruit trees, &c.
Mr John Douglas has been gazetted Colonial Treaaurer, in the room of the late Hon. J. D. M'Lean.
