The P.N.iJ. and A.R.M. Company's s.s. Lord Ashley, A. Kennedy, commander, sailed from Auckland on the 13th instant, at 11 a.m., and arrived at Tauranga at 4 p.m., leaving that port at 9.30 a.m. the following day, and anchored of Napier at 5 p.m. on the 15fh. She remained there for two hours only, an'l left for Wellington, where she armed" at 2 a.tn. on the 17th, sailing agaiu at midnight. Kelson waa reached on the 18th, at 3 p.m., and after a comparatively long stay of fortyone hours, she departed, and arrived off this port at 11 a.m. on the 20th, having called off Greymouth for an hour on her way down. She reports that the s.s. Rangitoto arrived at Nelson on the 20th inst , and s.s. Phoebe on the 19th. The Lord Ashley left for Bluff and Dunedin on Saturday morning. The Jason, brigontine, sailed from Sydney on the Bth instant, with light easterly winds and thick weather. The i??w Zealaud Coast was sighted about Cape Foulwind, on the 19th, and the roadstead reached on the 21st, light weather having detained her north. Bhe experienced strong easterly breezes and a high head sea during her rim from land to land. The Jason is loaded with a full general cargo, and when towed in by the Challenge on Saturday kst drew ten feet ten inches of water, which is certainly the heaviest draught that has yet crossed the bar. She was, however, favored by an excellent channel, and being kept well in the centre of it entered the river •without once touching the ground. Mesars Greenland and Horsey were passengers by the Jason.
The p. 6. Bruce arrived from Okarita last night at 8 p.m., having on board 37 paßeongers and 1087 ounces of gold dust, consigned to the Bank of New Zealand. She left this port for tho South at 8 p.m. on Friday last with thick drizzling weather which prevailed during the run down, and reached tbt roadstead at 1 a.m. the following day. Anchored, waiting for tide, which served at 8 a.m., when she ran inside, in the midst of torrenfcdofrain. Such weather prevented her discharging until the afternoon, when a change occurred and the car*;o was lauded, and yesV^W v I }k,,j. sew e^A i\-v 'i^wßieiy -rf.'-.lt'.i.- l . tho bar. Whilst going dowu the riror, the current caught the lat.ter, and swfept her on to a sandbank in mid-istrc&m, where the Bruce was compelled to leave her, but gained the roadstead iv safety with her remaining charge, whioh sho fhen cast off, nnd headed for Hokitika, arriving as abovo, Captain Kerley reports that the schooner Crest of tie Ware is still lying in the Okarita Lagoon. The Fhoonix was in no danger, being quite sheltered from the sea, and in such a position thit the noxt tide was certain to float lior. The Bruce, as usual, makes a very •horfc stay in port, she being advertised to sail for Fox's River this day at 11 a.m. The brigantine Jane Lockhart loft tlio river, for Sydney, yesterday morning, with forty-five passengers. Tho exports by her Consisted of thirteen baleß of wool, aud a number of hides.
The river entranco was never in a more favorable state for navigating than on Saturday last, as the channel ran straight out, and at high-tide there was nearly fifteen feet water on the bar. So report* Captain Wilson, of the t>.s.» Challenge, winch vessel ran out on the niomine's tide, and brought in the schooner Jason. The Yarra also worked the bar, eomnieiicing her day's w.ork by towing out the Glengarry to lighter the Lord Ashley, and returned with the balance of that vessel's passengers. She then shipped p .s^engers and mails, and on the same tide transferred them to the Ashley, and in the face of a smart ebb returned to her moorings at the Quay. A handaome schooner, named the Jubilee, was, on the 11th. instant, launched at Auckland, from the building yar.ls of Messrs Henderson and Spraggon. She is seventy tons measurement, and when deep loaded will draw only six feet six inches of wat'-r.
Wo see by "the f: New Zealand Herald" of the 17th instant that on the preceding day the schooner Stanley, fully laden with a iniseellimeous eurgo, rUarcd ont at the port of Onehunga, for Pakihi and Fox's River. The Stanley is 113 tons register. The "New Zealand Herald" states that during the late trip of the N.Z.S.N. Company's s.s. Rangatira, from Wanganui to the Manukau, a saloon passenger named , Mr George Fisk fell overboard and was drowned on the 15th instnnt. The vessel was going at full speed, and the evening being thick and dark, no attempt beyond throwing life buoys over was made to save him. It ib believed that b.e sunk immediately, as no cries were heard i'rom him.
