COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

West Coast Times Office, Friday Evening. The amount of import duty collected at the Custom House to-day was L 220 19s. 3d. The following list of merchandise cleared shows its distribution : —

We have to note a much easier week with the import houses then the preceding one, comparatively slight additions having been made to stocks of any kind. Tho market for major items remaining unaltered, although a fair amount of goods have been offered by the auctioneers, no lines have been sufficiently heavy to affect recent quotations ; wholesale houses have been well employed shipping goods northward. Flour has slightly improved on prices 1-ist quoted ; Ll7 for Adelaide and Llo 10s per ton for Chilian, have been the selling rates for the ,week. Lato Australian advices warrant a firmness here. Bran, 2s 8d to 2s lOd per bushel. Oats continue plentiful, and over 5s lOd to 6s cannot be obtained for parcels. Chaff, Lls to Ll6. Hay, Ll4 to Lls per ton. Potatos are plentiful, at L6to L 7 per ton. Spirits, of all kinds, are in good supply, without alteration in value. Pine sherries and good medium ports are enquired for ut better rates. Beer, in bulk, is in good demand ; light English and best colonial find a ready sale. Provisions are without alteration. Hams and bacon have come forward freely, the demand has been sufficiently brisk to check any downward tendency. In the absence of early arrivals higher prices are anticipated. The same remarks apply to butter and cheese. Oilmen's stores are more saleable, without change in value. Overdue vessels will, in all probability, bring their cargos to port early next week, and cause more animation in the market.
