After an animated debitfo, the Government, by a majority of two, carried a motion for a select committee to enquire into the management and efficiency of the police force. At the nomination for East Torrens today, Mr J. 11. Stow. W. Fisher, and E. C. Holenshaw were proposed. There have been floods in the far North, and 400 sheep were drowned at Wilpena. The rains have been general throughout the Northern district.
Judge Gwynne has postponed the trials of Kerney and others charged with highway robbery, till the next criminal s>essiorvs, on the ground that juries might be affected by the urticies published in the papers ; he repeated in strong language h'n> ce*nsure on the press for their conduct.
A new singer, Madame Weimberg, is to make her first appearance this evening at Mr Loder's concert, at the lown Hall. The corn market is unaltered. There have been«s<iles of wheat at 4s 7d to 4s 8d ; flour is held for Ll2 to Ll3.
