This Company has been formed for. die purpose of supplying tho town oi Hokitika with Gas.v From the report of the sub-conimittpe appointed to ascertain the probable number of houses in which gas would be used in the town, it appears th^; fiboufc 300 houses in Eevell street alone, averaging 10 burners to each house, or 3001 burners in all, would avail themselves of the great advantages of gas over aU other artificial lights, so soon as the main pipes are laid. The Company propose in the first instance to lay the innin pipes only in lievell-street, with a view to increasing their plant and- extending tho pipes to every street ia Hokitika in the course of a few mouths. *" From the most careful calculations as to th& cost of plant, coals, and working expenses, the Company have every reason to believe that the undertaking will prove not only highly advantageous to the inhabitants of Hokitika, but also to the shareholders. The Provisional Committee reserve 100 i paid-up shares to meet the preliminary ! expenses incurred by them in inaugurat- : ing the Company. Every care will be taken to secure the plant at as cheap a cost as will be consistent with the efficient working of tho Company, and the proper supply of good materials.
