Entrance 3 soys. Packers Purse, of 30 soys. Heats. For Packers horses only, and that must be be proved to have regularly packed, on any part of the West Coast, for not less than one month since the Ist of July. Welter weight for age. Three-quarters of a mile. Entrance 3 soys. Butchers Purse, of 30 soys, for horses the bona fide property of any West Coast cattle dealers or butchers. Weight for age. One mile and a half. Entrance 3 soys. Hokitika Plate, of 50 soys, with a sweep of 5 soys each added. Open to all horses. Weight for age. Two miles. Entrance 2 soys. Hurdle Race, of 50 soys. Welter weight for age. Open to all horses. One mile and a half. Entrance 5 soys.
SECOND DAY.— TUESDAY. Selling Race, of 40 soys. Open to all horses under the following conditions: . — If entered not to be sold, to carry 71bs penalty ; if to be sold for £60, weight for age ; for £50, allowed 71bs ; for £40, allowed 141bs; for .£3O, allowed 211bs ; for £20, allowed 28lbs. One mile and a half. The winner to be sold by auction after the race, and any balance over the upset price to go to the unds. Entrance 4 soys. The Local Plait, of 25 soys, for horses the bona fide property of parties resident and carrying on business now and previous to the lbt December — in the Hokitika District, viz., Ross Town, South, and Teremakau, North. The winner of any race on the first day to carry 6lbs penalty, and, if running second, 3lbs. Weight for age. Heats— one mile and a distance. Entrance, £2 10s. Trotting Race, of 30 soys, for Westland horses only that have been this side the range previous to December Ist. No weight under list. Three miles. (Distance handicap.) Entrance, £3, The Corinthian Cup (a silver goblet, value 2j guineas, presented by J. J.Bartlett, Esq.), with a. sweep of 5 soys each added. Open to all horses ; but every horse must qualify by being first ridden clear over a hurdle in front of the Grand Stand once in three attempts. Gentlemen riders, to be approved by the Stewards. Welter weight for age. One mile and a distance. District Hurdle Race, of 30 soys. Open to Westlaud horses only, as for the Trial Stakes. No weight under lOst 7lbs. Twice round. Heats— over eight flights of hurdles, about 3ft 6in high. Entrance, £3. THIRD DAY.— WEDNESDAY. The Westland Handicap, of 100 soys. Open to all horses. Two miles and a distance. Nominations, with 2 soys only, to be made on the night of general entry. The handicap weights will be made and declared at the Empire Hotel, at 9 p.m. on the second day of running, so as to allow the Stewards an opportunity of rating the merits of the horses during the previous days' running. Acceptance, with 6 soys, must be given to the Clerk of the Course, at the Empire Hotel, by 11 p.m. the same evening. The New Yeah's Gift, of 30 soys, open only to horses the property of, and to be ridden by, bona fide diggers on the West Coast. No winner of any previous race at this meeting allowed to start ; but, if entered, his money to be returned. No weight under list. About one mile. Heats — without dismounting. Entrance ,£l. The Pack S vddle Scurry, of 20 soys, and a new p;ick saddle for the second horse. Qualification same a3 for Packers Purse. The horses to be ridden in pack saddles, by packers only, and to curry not less than 12st, except the winner of the Packers' Purse, who will have a penalty of 71bs. Once round and a distance. Heats, without dismounting. Entrance, £2. Hurdle Handicap, of 50 soys. Open to all horses. Two miles, over 16 flights of hurdles. Nominations, with 2 soys, on the night of general entry ; weights to be made and declared on the evening of the second day's running, as for the Westland Handicap ; and acceptances, 3 soys, also under same conditions as Westland Handicap. (N.B.— This is not a Sweepstakes.^) Consolation Purse (Handicap), of 20 soys, for all horses that have not won
during the meeting. One mile. Entrance 2 soys. WEIGHTS TOR AGE. 6 yrs and aged lOst 4lbs 5 yrs lOst 4yrs 9st 71bs 3 yrs 7st 9lbs WELTER. 6 yrs and aged 12st 71bs oyrs 12st 4yrs list 4lbs 3 yrs lOst 41bs REGULATIONS. The rules of the Canterbury Jockey Club will be enforced, unless when otherwise specified. Mares and geldings allowed 3lbs, but no maiden allowance. All entries and nominations to be handed to the Stewards, at Ooborne's Empire Hotel, previous to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 29th. All entries must be in writing, specifying age and description of horse, and colors of rider ; and contain the requisite entrance money. . - All horses must be ridden in.f olors. In all, or any disputes, the decision of the Stewards to be final.
