RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
CBefore G. G. FitzGerald,Esq.,R.M.) Friday, November 16. Drunkenness. — liichard Benson and William Stevenson were charged with this offence, and respectively tinea os. ; in default of- payment, twenty-tour hours imprisonment. Destruction, &c. —Another charge was preferred against the prisoner Stevenson for wilful destruction of Government property, and the same being proved, he was lined 10s., and ordered to pay the value of the property destroy ed, in default of payment, three days imprisonment. Larceny. — William Wylie was again brought up on remand charged with larceny from a dwelling, and, on the apphcacion of Inspector JBroham, was discharged.
Ski.mng without a Licenrk, &c. — Richard lleevos was then charged with having sold certain goods, on Saturday last, without having an auctioneer's license. From the evidence it appeared that Mr Reeves had applied for a. license, but in consequence of Friday, the Bth day of November instant being the anniversary of the birth of the Prince of Wales, he had not been able to obtain one in time to enable him to sell on the following Saturday, but ho had taken out the license on the Saturday, shortly before the police favored him with a visit. His Worship said that he would dismiss the information, as he was satisfied that Mr Reeves had not attempted to evade the law. Encroachment. —Samuel Jackson was charged with encroaching eleven inches on a public right-of-way. After hearing the evidence, his Worship mulcted the accused in the sum of 108, and ordered him to remove the encroachment. CIVIL CASKS. Mathies v. Keough. — His Worship delivered judgment in this case, stating that he was satisfied of the completion of the sale of the furniture. The judgment would therefore be for the plaintiff in the sum of L 2, and costs. The case of M'Convey v. Hunter and another was fixed for hearing to-morrow (this day). The Court was then adjourned till 11 a.m. to-morrow (this day).
