THE PRICE OF BREAD.

(TO THE EDITOR OF THE WEST COAST TIMES.) Sir— Will you kindly take into your consideration the propriety of drawing public attention to the charges which at present are made by the bakers here for a loaf of bread. To men with large families this article is a serious item in the household expenses. 1 am credibly informed that a baker here asserted he was making a shilling clear profit on every four pound loaf he sold. In Adelaide, where they have the finest flour the world can produce, bread is only 4£d. the four pound loaf. Comment on this state of prices is much needed, and 1 think a cooperative bakery would, if established, be productive of much public good. Paterfamilias. Nov. 10, 1866.
