DUNEDIN.

The "Otago Daily Times" of the Bth inst, reports of the Dunudin markets : — " The week's, operations have again h< eu light, more so than they would have been Had not considerable -uncertainty prevailed during tho first two or three days as to the .amendments likely to bo- made on the Tariff, and an effect detrimental, to business been produced. In imported breadstuff's there has been little doing beyond the small transactions which current requirements necessitated ; prices have not varied. Sugars, pending the sale of the Isabella's cargo, which takes place on tho 11th, are quiet,- and of the few parcels in other hands it will be difficult to make sales until values are again approximately fixed by auction quotations. la teas, the business done lias been constituted of a number of small sale 3; values are firm. The -increase, in the duly on bulk beers n lias, and will tend to check the trade ; for bottled beers, the demand should, rather increase, though the enquiry for the past few days has been but sparing. Importers do not appear to be quitting bacon and hams except in extremely small parcels, and have no disposition to concede the lower rates, which would alone induce transactions. Butter and cheese are in full supply at unaltered values. There is a little enquiry for first-class brandies ; the present stocks are smUll, but; there are some considerable shipments close at hand. Some, whiskys have changed hands, and 600 cases were taken up in one transaction ; the priceaccepted did not transpire. In other spirits, though the market is firm, very little has been doing. By the Freidrich Wilhehn, a seasonable supply of American goods is to hand, all of which is wantetl except the timber and kerosene ; for the large shipment of the last, 4s 6d, duty unpaid, is asked. Owing to the full supply of blasting powder, sales are difficult to effect ; it will probably be necessary to make provision for the bonding of tliis article and kerosene."
