.Oct. o, 4.21 p.m. The Defence nivl Native Estimates passed committee last night, without any reduction. -Mr Macandrew moved that only eight months' supply be granted for each. Dr Feathcrston and Mr Vogcl voted, with him as regards the Native Estimates, the latter only on the Defence Estimates. Dr Featherston did "not vote on the Defence Estimates. Additional, estimates come oh to-night. Mr Jollio will move that the grant io the provinces be reduced. The work 'for the session is nearly clone.
- October 5. On Wednesday, in the Legislative Council the .lion. J. Menzies moved— " That'the Council is of opinion that in tJjp present circumstances of the. colony it is inexpedient that the next session of the General Assembly should be held in any place other than the city of Wellington." An amendment in favor of the 'removal of the Assembly to Christchurch, moved by the hon. Mr Peacock, was negatived, and the original motion put and carried. . The Civil Service Bill was -read a third time aud passed on Wednesday. The mace, a present from Sir William, Clifford hi the House of Representatives, arrived by the Ruahine from England, aud was' presented to the ' House by the Speaker. A sum of LSOOO has been voted for the General Assembly buildings. The Customs Duties Bill was read a> third time and passed on Thursday. An attempt to reduce the Defence estimates by L20.j0.00 -was negatived. Oct. 7.
