The " Argue " of the 25th ultimo reports :—: — The usual symptoms of the early departure of the mail were noticeable in the import inai*kets to-day. The transactions generally were on a small scale. BreadstufTs continued very dull; there was little enquiry., and prices remained without alteration. The particulars of a considerable sale by auction will be found below. The prospect of a good crop, both in this colony and South Australia, has noff tended to reassure the market.' There were sales of slightly damaged maize by auction, at 4s Id ;, but for prime samples the price re- , mains at 4s Id to 4s 6d. Malt was in better enquirj', and sales wefe effected at the price, lately quoted, 9s. TeaS changed hands at Is 9-j'd, duty paid, for medium congou of the old crop. Mauritius sugars were active, and sales of rations were made at auction at from L 22' 10s to L 24, and prifratelyuit L 22, in bond. A large transaction in the same kind of sugars was talked of in the afternoon, but, we believe, had not been concluded when business closed. White crystals were disposed of at. 375. Sinclair's haras and bacon changed hands at Is 3id, in bond. Full-weight candles, in bond, fetched lOJd. Oysters auJ lobsters, for shipment, found a market, the former at 9s 3d, and the latter at 7s 6d, in bond. Hennessy's pale brandy, in case, was disposed of at 26s 9d ; and fifty quarters pale, to arrive, were at equal to 7s 3cWor trade parcels. Sales were made of Downer's ker6sene at prices rising up to 3s 3d, this description of oil being more lively.
