MELBOURNE. . : / - Monday, Sept. 17. .- The Governor visited Echuca on Saturday last, and went on to the Pontoon Bridge, but did not, trespass on the territory of Sir John Young. Coppin and Eyte are . contesting the Richmond' election. A requisition containing over 800 signatures has been presented to Mr Graham, of the firm of Graham Brothers, asking him to come forward for the Central Pro-! vince, as member for the Upper House. ! ' Business shows a moderate improve- I ment. Currants are firmer ; sales have been effected at 4^d. A considerable parcel of chicory has been placed at about 3d. Only trade sales of breadstuffs Have been made, pending the auction sales to-mor- 1 row. There have been rather heavy sales of liquids — 100 quarter-casks of Hennessy's pale brandy were disposed of at 275 ; 1 000 cases at 26s ; 75 quarter-casks whisky at 3s 9d ; and 900 casks Machen's stout at 9s. -* In the live stock market the quantity of cattle brought forward this week amounted to, 850, and fat sheep about 14,000. The market is not very brisk, and prices are a shade lower than those of last week. ( Arrived. — Elizabeth, from Mauritius 5 /Cabot, supposed to be from Chili. The Norfolk cleared out with about 450 bales wool, and a general cargo of colonial produce. Her shipment of gold is 28,170 ounces. ■ The City of Melbourne, s., cleared out for Sydney to-day with 13,681 ounces gold.
