The "Otago Daily Times" of the 20th reports .—". — " Since the departure of the mails via Panama, the import market hus continued in a dull condition, presenting but little of interest* in the transactions which have come under notice. Shipments 'actually to hand have in general been placed without difficulty, and prices fairly maintained without symptoms of giving way, or of flucfcuat'on ; bufc for shipments to arrive, even when supposed to be close at hand, an extreme indifference to upi-rate has been nvanifeste'd by buyers, and except in ono or two very scarce articles, transactions other than for prompt delivery have been almost ni.. The .restrietivencss which characterised financial .arrangements last month, is still felt, though hivi lesser degree. Credit, however, has ' been fairly maintained; no commercial casualties have taken placer and only the lapse of a short period of time is requisite for the entire subsidi'iico of any unnecessarily cautjpus policy. There have been no arrivals from British or Foreign Ports sipee the sth, and the only intelligence to hand respecting overdue ships, has been the reported putting in of the Olivo Mount to tho Mauritius. Bank rates of discount remain as last given, aud exchanges close, viz : — On London, at three days' sight, 3 per cont ; at 30 days' eight, 2£ percent. sat 60 days' 2 per cent; o,u Sydney, I per- eent.f on Melbourne, cent.
