A Parliamentary committee have recommended a weekly mail to Bombay, and a direct line* of telegraph via Alexandria. • July 28. Preliminaries of peace were signed yesterday, and an armistice indefinitely proclaimed. Prussian troops remain in Bohemia and Bavaria. A tremendous fire occurred at Portland, in the State of Maine, the loss being 10,000,000 dollars. The Birmingham Banking Company has stopped payment, the liabilities amounting to two millions sterling. Hungary is said to be raising recruits for Austria.
