Wellington, Thursday, 7.17 p.m. The debate, on. Mr ' Ward's resolutions has not yet concluded. Last night the Premier expressed a wish that the House should come to some determination to-day ; but the desire is not likely to be gratified. The Government have intimated that if Stamp Duties were not imposed, the provinces would have to receive so much less than their three-eighths of Customs revenue ; but have sinco declared their intention to Btand or fall by the resolution in favor of Stamp Duties. The Government have promised to reduce the tariff by L 50,000 if the provinces are willin'gtfo take so much less than the three-eighths. The Stamp Duties are likely to "be carried by a ma- -.v jority of 27. Mr McLean has moved for leave to bring in a Bill to annex Poverty Bay to Hawke's Bay. The debate is now on. The Auckland members are against the motion.
