DUTY ON EXPORTS.

Gold.— Nil.

The • " Westland Observer" of Saturday reports : —

During the past week our market has been fully supplied with every conceivable article, and there is now an abundance of all, and indeed a glut of many goods for some weeks to eoine. The Caledonia, from Dunedin, was the first to arrive, reaching the port at a tolernbly fortunate time, aud with a well-selected •argo. The market was immediately taken advantage of, with the knowledge of other orafta as likely to arrive at any hour ; and the eats, bran, and potatos on board fouud ready sale. Oats were sold at 8s 6d per bushel ; bran, 4s 6d; and potatos, Ll/2 to Ll3 per ton. Trade was observably more pushed this week than it kas beaii for uomo time, and the prices of several articles are equal to, if not under, the Hokitik* quotations. Tho market ieoin* already thoroughly glutted with case and draught brandy, for which tho demand lias materially decreased, and there is a furthor iupply of between thirty aud forty qrcfyAa off lh« bar in the schooner Wallace — •sfficiont in itself to supply the district, at its present rat#, for months to come. Of ke/osene and candles there seems also an over abundance, aud prices are in consequence reduced — tha former to 7s per gallon, -and .the luttcv from Is 8d to Is 7d per lb, full weights. Geod bulitor, so scarce a, few woeks ago, i 3 how plentiful. Wellington (inferior), is offering at Sn. par lb, but anythhig really prime,

though slow of sale, is not .yet named under 2s Cd to 2s Bd. Tho stocka of oata in town, though by no moans large, arc sufficient to prevent any rise iit price for" some time, with the expectancy of other arrivals shortly from Inrcvcargill. Chaff is more plentiful still, and is offered freoly at L 26 to L2B per ton. -Bran maintains its price bettor, there being low stocks. Hams and bacon hnvo fallon/considerably of late with us, as in other ports, and Is lOd to Is lid now is the outside price wholesale. Sales of sugars haVo taken placo during the week — white, crystals and Company's No. 2 at 6Jd per lb; light crystuls, Gdf and light Mauritius, sid to Gd; dark ditto, 5d to 5 Jd. Flour bears a slightly lower quotation thtm last week. The only sbJo by auction during the week was that of the wreck Sisters, which fetched a ftvir price, considering the small number of buvcrs.
