Yoßtcrday afternoon tho signal " a steamer to the southward " -was hoisted at the flagstaif, and the report was at once circulated that the Taiwua from Melbourne bad hove in sight. -As tho vessel approached it was soon ascertained she maa not one of the P. N. Z. boats, and -when within signalling distance he*' number was hoisted, which read, "Alham- ' bra." Further communication, by bunting revealed the fact that she was from Melbourne with 350 passengers, and would sail again on her direct return to-morrow. The Alhambra arrived just an hour t»o late on tide, aud in consequence was condemned to, a twenty hours sojourn in tbe roadstead with her living freight on board. At an early hour this morning the p.*. Yarra ran outside, and will doubtless return with the first instalment of jiflsgengers by eleven o'clock. Tbe Alhambra brings no cargQ. The schooner Mary Jane cleared Manuknu Heads on tho Ist inst. with light winds and fine weather. Variable weather prevailed until the 6th, when the schooner was off Cape Farewell, the wind then hauling into the S.W., aud in a few hours increasing to a heavy gale. With the shelter of Blind Bay under her ice ifc wjuj considered advisnble to run for Totaranui, where she anchored the same night, and as the weather continued unfavo-able reinained there until the 9th ; put to sea on that day aud anchored ofF Hokitika on the night of the 11 th ; but a westerly blow the next day compelled her to make for the offing. Ran in igaiu on the 13th and being fastened to by the Challenge she reached the wharf safoly. The Mary Jane brings a full cargo of produce.
