DUNEDIN,

The " Daily Times," of tifc sth instant, reports :—: — " Since the departure of the mails via Suez, business has continued to wear the quiet aspect ■which it previously possessed — the same caution and disinclination to operate freely characterising all the transactions which have come under notice. The v tightness felt in -the money market has not yot ceased to exercise an influence unfavorable to the extention of trado beyond actual require-^ ments. Prices have sustained very trifling' alterations, and for many gbods, are firmer limn at the date of our last review. The additions to stocks have been small — one ship from Britain, and. one from South America with Tireadstuffs, constituting the whole of the other than intercolonial arrivals. Importers are again complaining that ships from a distance are making^ long passages. Several British and Foreign cargos, destined for this port, are considerably overdue. ' Though trade has displayed no briskness for the past two months, it is anticipated that the present state of stocks, the approaching Spring season, and the probability of more cheering news from Britain being to hand by next mail, will cause a speedy resumption of activity ; and traders are content not to push transactions until the reaction takes place."
