MEXICO.
On the 24th of June, the city of Matamoras, which has so long been held Uilder Imperial rule, surrendered to the Liberal forces tfnder General Escobedo.
The whole tenor of recent Mexican intelligence goes to show that the Mexican people, so long scattered and hitherto so divided in interest, are becoming more aud more united, and much more warm in the cause of the independence of their country. The Imperial forces .have lately suffered a a number of defeats, and the cause of Maximilian is beginning 1 to look' father
gloomy. His treasury empty, the public works undertaken by him shortly after his arrival are in a languishing condition ; on all sides the Liberals are gaining ground, and altogether he seems to be 1 in a very bad fix indeed.
