The "Otngo Da^v News'" 'tff 'the 20th' in£tAu,t *iV&S the 'following conimeicial bOsktot tin- the mdh'tlr: —

. Since Hie da]te,of our last SuYnmary, trade lias *fianifest<kl but Vl moderate degree of : actfv?ftr, 'arid throughout the month cqmparatiVefy little of commercial interest has transpired. Buyers have been disinclined to enter l into transactions extending beyond cuVrent wants, and but little has been "Johe in tlie sale of parcels for other tuiin prompt delivery. Looking at the Operations of all branches of business, particularly among importers, comp*rreon with the o] erations of several precede ing mouths is unfavorable to the present. Several causes have aided in producing this result, tlie unfavorable commercial intelligence to hand by last Home mails prominently so— the season of the year— and the prospect of ampler supplies of most staple British imports also contributing. Prices on the whole liHYe been fairly sustained, and with one or two exceptions (of goods to hand in very full supply) quotations do not differ very materially from those forwarded by last mail. There have been during the month but two arrivals from Greakßritain, viz., Bengal and Viola, and of foreign arrivals there have been none. Some restriction has been expressed in tlie money market, in consequence of the financial derangements at home ; but owing to the present indifference to speculative or even heavy legitimate operations, very little inconvenience has been felt, and credit has not been affected in any appreciable degree. Rates of discount have not altered, and closing exchanges are on London, 3 days' sight, 1 per cent, premium ; 30 days', 1 $ per cent. ; 60 days', 2 per cent. ; on Sydney, 1 per cent. ; on Melbourne, 1J percent. In matters connected with the gold mining interest, scarcely anything has to be said, except that the winter season being nearly over, all connected with these pursuits are actively preparing for spring work. Sluicing and quartz crushing will be in operation on a more extensive scale than at any previous time.
