August 10. A sensational public meeting has been held in Melbourne to express public approbation of the late ministerial appointments.
Vale has been returned for Ballarat, and Straeb.au has defeated Miller in the Western province.
Business shows improvement. Transactions in breadstuff's confined to the trade.
Best Adelaide brands, LI 6 10s. For wheat there is more enquiry. 3000 bushels of Adelaide sold at 7s. Oats unsought. Maize heavy; no buyers to be had at ss. There is a good demand for sugar ; holders ask .an advance on late rates. Teas show improvement. Provisions move off slowly. Sales of fine quality cheese at Is 6d. llice quiet at L2B 10s.
