COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

West Coast Times Office, Friday Evening. The amount, of import duty collected at the Custom House to-day was £323 Is Od. The following list of merchandise cleared shews its distribution :—: —

Business for the current week ' has maintained the satisfactory character we were able to report in our issue of the 11th inst Several vessels, fully due, having arrived, with well assorted cargos, have given an impetus to trade by a very seasonable addition to our small stocks. No material alteration in prices can be noted ; the bulk of goods imported during the week have come for " own trade,'' and not put into into the market for immediate sale, has tended materially to keep prices steady. Houses doing business at the Kanieri, Rosstown r and the new rush at the Stafford Hill, have been well employed during the week, and the quantity of goods sent to the goldfields mity be taken as indicative of the prospects of each locality. Mr G. W, Binney submitted to public competition portions of the cargo of the Maid- of Erin, and placed 100 cases of Blood's stout at 15s 6d per dozen ; also, fifty cases Byass' stout at 16s; and at his rooms, in Revell street, a considerable amount of drapery, which was freely purchased at satisfactory prices. At the unreserved sate, held by M'Landress, Hepburn, & Co., at their rooms, on the 17th inst., very good prices were realised. The goods appear to have been wanted. The same firm have also placed the cargo of timber, ex Stanley, consisting of about 86,000 feet; the price haa not transpired, but is understood to be satis factory. •
