AMERICA.
Full details of the liter American news brought by the Rakaia were published in the Despatch of Saturday evening. We summarise the principal items.
A ridiculous and abortive attempt at tho actual invasion of- Canada had at last been made by the Fenians. They were met by the Canadian volunteers, and the attack ended in discomfiture. Thfi American papers laugh at the expedition, but claim the credit for their own troops of having frustrated it. They show a disposition to throw ridicule equally upon the Fenians and the Canadians. However, several lives were lost in the affair, and several arrests of Fenian leaders made. General Sweeney aud " President" Roberts are in custody. The President of the United States has issued a proclamation, cautioning all good citizens against taking a part in or countenancing the Fenian movement.
