COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

West Coast Times Office,

Friday Evening.

The amount of import duty collected at the Custom House to-day was £606 11s 8d The following list of merchandise cleared shews its distribution :—: —

We have but little to report in commercial matters for the past week, no transactions of any magnitude having transpired. Arrivals coastwise and foreign j- have been on a very limited scale, and ' with our previous moderate stocks, the -tendency has been in favor of holders.

Oats are decidedly firm at 7s for parcels. Bran is scarce, and worth 3s 6d. Chaff is freely placed at L2l to L 23 for first-class ; a small lot of three tons or so, ex Tiger, sold on the wharf at Ll9 ; not of first-rate quality, we are informed.

Flour maintains the position of our last quotations. Adelaide, L 22 to 1/24 ; Chilian, Ll7 10s to LlB 10s, for good brands.

Wines and Spirits have been in moderate demand, without alteration, on our last quotations.

Provisions are somewhat easier. Hams and Bacon are in better supply, and are freely taken by the trade, with an improved prospect.

The fact of most of $r mercantile men having to lay aside commerce and attend to their citizens' duties as jurors at the Supreme Court, will account for a somewhat dull week, which will have to be made up by an additional impetus next week.
