West Coast Times. WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 1866.

The Memorial Committee have now issued their subscription lists for funds for the erection of a monument to M r George Dobson, and Messrs Whitcombe, Townsend, and Howitt. It is proposed to place it in some central . position in Hokitika, probably at an intersection of two of the principal streets, from which a view of it can b c commanded from most of the public parts of the town. We remind the members of the Committee that they have now pledged themselves, alike as practical men, and as men of honorable feeling to give effect to the resolutions passed at the late meeting of citizens. They have addressed an eloquent letter of sympathy to Mr Dobson's family. They have assured them of the deep commiseration felt on the whole of the West Coast for the untimely fate of their lost relative, and of the desire of the people to do honor to his memory, in common with that of the other unfortunate public servants who have lost their lives in the service of the country, in this part of the province. We will not do the Committee the wrong of assuming that it is necessary to press these considerations upon them, and will not therefore dwell upon the ; topic. We say only a few words, in remembrance of the many movements that have been begun here under the most promising auspices, and which have borne but small results in conse-

qucn.ee ot failure to press them promptly and earnesly. The Committee have wisely determined to throw the subscription list open to all subscribers, however small their contributions, the desire being to give tangible and conspicuous expression to the genuine senliment of a whole people, We trust that by the next day of mooting (Tuesday next) .some substantial progress will be reported.
