Saturday Evening. The amount of import duty collected at the Customlloiiße to-day was £230 lGs 8d The following list of merchandise cleared shews its distribution :—: —

Tho export duty on gold amounted to £74 10s 2d, representing 596 ozs. 1 dwt., cloared by the Bank, of New Zealand. •

Total amount of import duty collected at (ho Custom House, Hokitika, from June Ist (o July 15lh, L 12,249 6s. 7d.

The paucity of ai-rivals consequent upon the very severe weather wliich prevailed for some ten days, was followed by the simultaneous arrival of several overdue vessels, but it is satisfactory to note the market has not been materially affected, the bulk of the cargoa having passed into second hands without any material change in quotations.

An extensive sale of merchandise .was hold at the rooms of Messrs M'Landress, Hepburn, and Co., on the lOfch iust., when the following prices were realised, whichare a fair Approximate of present values : — Hart's Adelaide (lour, L 23 10s per ton ; colonial butters, 2s 3id per lb ; pearl barley, 37s per cwt ; dried apples, Sd per lb ; tea, in half-chests, 50a to 70s ; Oriental tobacco, 1s 4d per lb ; Buckner's, 10's, Is Id per lb, in bond ; Hartell's case brandy, 25s 6d ; Hennessy's, 31s per case, in bond ; llartell's pale brandy, in bulk, 9s 4d ; JDKZ gonova 2 24-32, 14s 6d j ditto, 3 gala, 15s.

Several lines were withdrawn for better rates, which it is anticipated will be realised during the coining week.
