The poll for the election of members, to~ represent the district of Hokitika in the Provincial Council, i takes place this day. Two members i have to be chosen, and there are three candidates in the field — viz., Messrs Bright, Reeves, and Robinson. Every elector has the right of voting for two i candidates out of the list of three before him. And all persons are entitled to vote who have been for six months, consecutively, holders of Business Licenses or Miners' Rights. The' poll opens this morning at nine o'clock, and closes at four. We must impress upon electors the importance of discharging, in a spirit of earnestness and* fidelity to the occasion, the important work they have to do. Whoever may be the members returned, it is to be hoped that the large number of votes recorded will be sufficient proof that the district is alive to its new opportunity, and properly anxious to take its due place in the political system of the Province.
