DUNEDIN.

The " Otago Daily Times " of the 22nd ult. reports as follows : —

! There is but little to report in the wsy of business, the sales of the few goods at present ai first hands furnishing scarcely anything of interest. Most of the goods sold to arrive during the last six weeks have yet to come to hand, and very much inconvenience is in sonsequence felfc. The matter also operates in checking further saleß of later made shipments. The flour market ia without alteration. Teas are firm, and sugars still advancing. In malt liquors and provisiona there is next to nothing doing. Measrs M'Landreas, Hepburn, and Co. placed, by public auction, the lease of premises in Princca-street, recently occupied by Mesars Currie and Smith ; £500 was understood to have been the price for the unexpired term of six years. 'MELBOURNE. In its commercial report of June 12th, the " Age says :—: — There has not been much activity in business to-day. The inquiry for sugars continues, but we have not heard of any large transactions occurring. A small parcel of yellow crystals, not very fine, has been disposed of at 41s ; and we believe there are negotiations going on for a good sized parcel. There is not much doing in teas ; beyond the usual trade demand, very little has occurred for several days. A trade parcel of common port -wino has been sold at L4l, duty paid. There has been but little doing in spirits : we only hear of 100 cases Heunessy's pale brandy being sold at 28a 9d. Kerosene oil hag been tho subject of a little further speculation ; 5s 3d was given for 500 cases, and more would have been bought, we understand, at the same fig-

ure, but holders refuse to quit at 5s 3d. A sale of Brandon's candles has been made at Is 6Jd> but we scarcely think any quantity could be placed at that figure. There has been considerable inquiry for castor oil, but holders seem determined not to sell at existing prices, which are far below cost of importation 5 and as all lubricating oils have advanced considerably in the English market, they prefer awaiting the arrival of the mail to fixing any price in the present state of the market here. The demand for woolpacks is beginning to be felt ; we have heard of a large parcel of Calcutta packs having changed hands, but as the information did not reach ub direct, we only allude to it ; wo believe they are not to bo bought vow under 4s 9d. A parcel of 10 tons sheepwash tobacco has been disposed of at a price not disclosed, but fully up to late sales for this description. At auction, 94" half and quarter tierces twist, Sultana brand, ex Clymeno, were sold at 6d to Is 6d per lb., all faults, a price satisfactory to the importers, conditions being considered. An invoice of •wire ropo, of about 10 tons, changed hands at L 35 per ton ; (and 30 to 40 tons whiting has been placed at Lo 5s per ton. Muscatel raisins are selling freely at 9d per lb for basket, and 9£d for crown j a considerable quantity having found buyers at these prices. Breadstuffs remain unchanged j we quote flour Ll7 10s per ton for best Adelaide, Ll6 for Victorian and Californian, and Lls for Chilian Wheat is unaltered ; wo hear of no sales ; nor> of barley in any quantity. Oats are much wanted, but what stocks there are of Tasmanian are in few hands, and holders demand more than buyers are disposed to give. Maize is selling in 200 to 300 bag lots at 5s 3d to 5s 4d.
