COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

Contrary to the anticipations in our last report, business for the past week has been extremely dull, the weather having been, without scarcely a day's exeption, extreme winter, continuous rain, hail, and squalls, causing arrivals to be '" Nil" for the whole week, with the exception of the p.s. Bruce, from Okarita on tho 25th hist., with 3000 ozs. of gold ; 'the departures same day being four sailing craft, and the s.B. Kennedy, and on the 26th the Bruce for Okarita. The remainder of the week, as regards shipping matters, has been rendered inoperative on account of the severity of the weather.

The same remarks will apply to country trade, which has been extremely dull ; in fact, all but stopped by floods and freshets, and business confined to town trade, which must have been, with such a week as we have had, limited, as no goods have arrived during the week, and scarcely any offered at the auction rooms. We have no alterations to make in our' last quotations, the tendency may be said to be in favor of holders, from non-arrivals. An adjourned meeting in the estate of S. L. Marks & Co., lately trading at Okarita, was held yesterday, at the office of Messrs Oakes & Button, solicitors for the to receive and consider an offer made at the previous meeting by one of the creditors, who, after further consideration, withdrew the same. We understand the liabilities in th.l 3 estate are something; over L3Bioo, and assets shown quite equal; but the obstucles thrown in the way r of realising, by the insolvent's and several other complications which have arisen, tend to show but a small dividend.
