RECEPTION OF HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT.

A public meeting was held last evening, at Fitzsimmons 1 Commercial Hotel, for the purpose of giving a suitable reception to hia Honor Mr Moorhouse, the Superintendent of the Province and the representative of the district in the General Assembly. It is anticipated that Mr Moorhouse Will be able to land about half-past ten o'clock this morning, the heavy surf on the bar having considerably abated during the night. Mr E. Prosser, being called to the chair, a resolution was proposed, and carried in an amended form, to the following effects " That a committee of fifteen gentlemen bo appointed to make all the necessary arrangements for the reception and entertainment of the Superintendent, and to take steps to bring the requirements of the district under hia notice.'' A long list of names were proposed and seconded, and a ballot being taken by voting papers the choice of the meeting was found to have fallen upon the following gentlemeu :— Messrs Prosser, Button, Anderson, Bonar, Bright, Bracken, Binney, Clarke, Cassius, Ecclesfield, Fisher, Munro, Rees, Moir, and Shaw. The committee thus constituted having immediately afterwards met, it was proposed and carried " that the s Committee should meet at 10 o'clock this morning; that his Honor should be greeted on his landing with a brief address of congratulation; that he should then be escorted to the Freemason's Hotel, have his health drunk, and be requested to accept an invitation to a public banquet, at such time as may suit his convenience."

We aro requested by the Committee to invite the presence of as many citizens as can make it convenient to attend, and to remind them that their attendance must be punctual. It is understood that the address to be presented this morning will be merely one of welcome, and that another opportunity will be taken of memorialising his Honor upon the grievances and requirements of the district.
