RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT (Before G. G. FitzGerald, Esq., R.M.)
Wednesday, June 27. Lunacy. — Peter Connelly, on remand from the 25th instant, was charged with being of unsound mind, and was again remanded till the 4th July for further medical examination. Larceny. — Henry Foreman, alias Jack Leary, was charged with stealing a handkerchief of the valuo of fis. Sergeant Dyer sworn stated that he was at the Prince of Wales Opera House last evening between eleven and twelve o'clock. He saw the prisoner brush up against the prosecutor Spencer, who was at tho time assisting another person to remove a lady who had fainted Witness noticed tho prisoner put something into his pocket, and arrested him ; he then took him to the lock-up, whore on searching him, lie found the handkerchief produced. Sergt. White corroborated the last witness' evidence. William Sponcer called said — that as he was assisting a mate of his to carry his wife out of tho Theatre, tho prisoner took hold of him several times and tore his coat. The witness being at last obliged to strike him to make him loose his hold ot him. Spencer did not feel the prisoner take anything from him ; but on looking for his handkerchief this morning, found- it had been taken away. Tho handkerchief was here produced in Court ; but the witness could not identify it ; it was one of tho same pattern as the one he lost ; but he could not swear that it was his property. The prisoner slated he was very drunk, and did not remember anything about it. Tho magistrate discharged him as the prosecutor had not been able to identify the handkerchief. CIVIL CASES. Smith v Cleary & Co.— Judgment for full amount claimed £1$ and costs, for supplying duplicate plans and specifications of the Prince of Wales Opera HouseIn the cases of Eden v Spillan, Hall & Finlay v Ryan and Lewis, Gibson v West, M'Beth v Marshall, Casey v Moore, and M'Beth y Black, there was no appearance of plaintiffs or defendants. The Court was then adjourned until eleven o'clock to-day.
