The " Otago Daily Times," of the 16th reports : — "In moat respects tho business of tko month lifts partaken of tho character of that of the procoding month, and though not without an appoarance of activity, has been limited in amount In tho import markets operations have been more numerous than largo. Stocks of most of tho leading articles of consumption being still too circumscribed, and prices in general too high, to allow of transactions assuming much of a speculative character, or extending very far beyond current roquirotnonts. Although there aro ttofc wanting indcations that onr markets will again bo bettor supplied with British merchandises and though the arrivals which should have taken placo this month would hiwo put us in possession of rather heavier shipments than thoso of sevoral previous months, yet, owing to tho circumstances of ships from Gkxeat Britain making unusually protracted passages, tho amount of goods 'actually to hand has boon very small, and muoh inconvenience has been experienced in consequence of tho non-arrival of parcels placed in anticipation of speedy delivery. Credit has been woll sustained, and an unimpaired feeling of confidence oxists in all branches of commerce The) mining interest continues prosperous, and satisfactory results are attending the prosecution of tho associated enterprises, now tho ohiof means of the continued development of the auriferous resources of tho colony."
