COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

West Coast Times Office, Friday Evening. The amount of import duty collected at the Custom House to-day was £41 8s 2d. The following list of merchandise cleared shews its distribution :—: — Brandy £16 4 0 Wineinwood 16 0 0 Drapery 9 4 2 £41 8 2 There was no clearance of gold.

Business during the week has been somewhat dull, and prices quoted in our last report have scarcely been maintained ; the simultaneous arrivals of vessels coastwise, with cargoes of colonial produce, have decidedly affected the market; and tho course taken of late by shippers, in submitting whole cargoes under the hammer at ship's side, has had a tendency to lower quotations. These remarks apply principally to such goods as oats, hay, chaff, butter, cheese, potatoes, &c, which have all suffered a decline— uot so much on account of the quantity in the market as the haste in which they have been offered. If taken into store, several articles would no doubt have been placed at better rates. Oats have been sold at 5s 9d to 5s lid, on board — quality not first class. Prime lots may be quoted at 6s 6d. Potatoes, L6to L 8 per ton.

Flour has been more enquired for, and first class brands of Adelaide can be placed at L 23 toL24; Chilian, Ll7 to LlB. Messrs. G. W. Binney have realised the following prices in clearing off Messrs M'Farlane and Co.'s stock :— Hennessy's pale brandy, 9s 6d; C.V.P. do, 9s 3d ; Geneva, 16s 9d per case ; Islay whisky, 4s; rum, 8 0.p., 5s 9d ; claret, 365, duty paid; tobacco, lid to Is 2d. in bond.

The unusual boisterous weather experienced this week has been against business. A favorable re-action no doubt will be experienced for the coming week.
