PROSPECTING THE BACK COUNTRY.
The following communication from the Secretary of Public Works, in reply to a memorial on the above subject, has been addressed to Mr. Prosser :—: — Public Works Office, Chris tclmroli, Canterbury, N.Z., Juno 18, 1866. Sir, — With reference to a memorial signed by yourself and others, recommending to the favorable consideration of the Superintendent a proposal, on tho part of Mr William M'Crea, to form a party in order to prospect the back country of Westland, I am directed by his Honor, while declining action in the matter for the prosent, to inform you that it is his Honor's intention to visit Westland in the course of a few days. 1 I hand you herewith Mr M'Crea's testimonials, which formed part of your enclosure.
