Prussia is re-establishing five 'army corps. .May 7th. Prussia has summoned Saxony to disarm. Saxony has invoked the protection of the Diet. , . War is considered inevitable. j Specie payments in Austria and Italy l havo been suspended. It is reported that France is about sending troops to Rome. Tho panic in the money market continues. An immediate Continental war is expected. Italy is endeavoring, to obtain a loan from England. May Bth. Discount 8 per cent. Large withdrawals of gold from the Bank of England, for transmission to ithe Continent. "The Re distribution of Seats Bill " is before Parliament. It disfranchises fourteen boroughs by grouping together ; saving 49 seats, and re-distri-butes seats thus: 26 to counties, 16 to boroughs, 7 to Scotland. There has been an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Bismarck. May 11th. The whole Austrian army has been placofl on war footing. The panic in Paris is unparalleled. Owing to the, panic in London two banks have suspended. The second reading of the Reform Bill was carried by five (5) votes. Gladstone's Budget shows a surplus of L 1,350,000., 350,000. May 12. Government authorises the suspension of the Bank Charter Act. The Italian Government has ordered the formation of fifty companies under Garibaldi. Discount, 12 per cent.
