Being rather pressed for time, I cannot go into details as to my political views ; but I believe to most of you my opinions aro pretty well known. As it is my intention to pay a visit to Victoria, it is not at all probable that I may be able to address you personally, before the election ; therefore, should I be elected, I shall consider the honor all the greater ; should you not do so, I shall be none tho less pleased, but will hope you have chosen a better man to represent your interest. Unoxpectcd as it was to receive this flattering proof of your confidence, I am not at present prepared to lay boforo you my political views. All I beg to assure you is, that if elected, I shall devote my time to tho general good of Westland, and shall watch eagerly over tho interests of the mining community as over those of the inhabitants of tho towns, with both of ffh'ch I am, as you aro well aware, intimately connected.
